Smoked Maple Pork Flatbread
I am in love with Sugar Bob's Finest Kind's Smoked Maple Syrup! It adds a slight sweetness and a wonderful smokiness and depth to just about anything. Using a slightly modified flatbread recipe from the Ninja cookbook and using a favorite pizza topping combo from a local pizza shop as inspiration, this recipe was born!
Ingredients for the Flatbread
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- ¾ cup warm water
- 2 cups flour
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
Ingredients for the Toppings
- 1 boneless pork chop
- salt and pepper
- ½ green apple
- Red onion, to taste
- 8oz cheddar cheese
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1-2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1-2 Tbsp Smoked Maple Syrup
Instructions
- Place the 1tsp yeast and 1 tsp sugar into a large mixing bowl. Add ¾ cup warm water, mix gently, and cover. Wait for 5 minutes to see the tell tale bubbles that means the yeast has been activated.
- Slowly add the flour, olive oil, and salt while mixing in a stand mixer, or by hand with a spoon, until the dough comes together.
- Kneed the dough for 2 minutes until the dough becomes smooth. If it’s too sticky, add 1-2 more tablespoons of flour.
- Place the dough into a lightly oiled bowl and cover. Let the dough rise at room temperature for 45 minutes or until the dough has doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, gather and prep the remaining ingredients.
- Prepare the pork chop with a little drizzle of olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Cook on a nonstick skillet over medium heat, until both sides are golden and the chop is thoroughly cooked. Remove from heat and let rest.
- Slice the apple into thin slices.
- Slice the red onion into thin slices and cut rings in half
- Shred the cheddar cheese (if you bought a brick, or simply open the pre-shredded cheddar bag).
- Mince the garlic. In a small pan, heat 1-2 Tbsp olive oil over low heat and add the minced garlic, stirring occasionally. Cook for 5-10 minutes, being careful not to let the garlic burn, to infuse the garlic into the oil.
- Preheat the oven to 475*F.
- When the dough is ready, punch down the air and gently stretch the dough into the desired shape and place on a parchment paper lined baking tray.
- Coat the dough with the garlic olive oil, crust and all.
- Top with cheddar cheese.
- Slice up the pork chop into relatively thin pieces and place on top of the cheese.
- Place an apple slice next to every piece of pork.
- Sprinkle the red onions on top.
- Drizzle 1-2 Tbsp Smoked Maple Syrup over the entire flatbread.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is good and melty.
- Enjoy!
