Autumn Wedding Ensemble

In anticipation of our friend's wedding this fall I went looking for a "new" dress on my favorite thrifting website thredUP. I found the perfect autumn gold dress (for $17!!!), instantly had a vision for the outfit I wanted to wear and got to work!

Since this was an outdoor wedding in October in the North East US I was concerned I would be cold and needed to make a wrap. I found fabric to match the dress with the kinda boho vibe I was going for, but couldn't find any fringe that was long enough to match my vision. So what did I do? I decided to make some! I had the thin cotton cord that I needed in my stash, so I found one of my smaller crochet hooks and started crocheting the longest chain I have ever chained. In the end, I made roughly 165" of 12" fringe. It took me somewhere between 9-10 hours to complete. I gently hand washed in hair conditioner, white vinegar and water to soften the cord and let drip dry in my basement for 24 hours. I then serged and hemmed the fabric and attached the fringe. I only needed 140" of the fringe I made. (Ah well.)

Since we're still in COVID times, I also made a mask to match the wrap. I made a double layer cotton mask with the silky paisley on the outside for a third layer. (I also had a paper napkin filter, so I could be as protected as possible.) I've been using bulky blanket yarn for ear loops instead of elastic because 1) it is INFINITELY more comfortable around my ears, 2) I had 3 skeins of it in my stash in various colors, 3) it's more easily available and much more economical and 4) it's super adjustable.

I also made a mask for my husband, who was one of the groomsmen. (He's so cute!)
