Black Lives Matter

I can't believe what is going on in our country right now. It seems so inconceivable that in 2020 we're still experiencing the level of hate and intolerance that we have recently seen and that we're having the same discussions about basic human rights.

I know that crafting a couple of things won't really change anything, but it's what I know how to do, and so I did.

#BLM

#BlackLivesMatter Door Decor

I had originally made this HOPE sign with a heart-shaped "O" made from coffee filter flowers at the beginning of COVID. I did some quick research and discovered that the #BLM website uses three main colors: black, yellow, and white. I swapped out the "O" for a #BLM deco mesh wreath I made, in the style of a cockade.

#BlackLivesMatter Cockade

Thanks to YouTuber Bernadette Banner, I learned that cockades have been used for centuries to show your support for causes (click here to watch her video on how to make one). I thought this was an appropriate application. This was my first attempt, and it came out a bit bigger than I had intended, so I plan on making another one that I could actually wear. I think I'm going to pin this one to my work tote.

BLM Cockcade

#BlackLivesMatter COVID Mask

Since my first cockade attempt wasn't as successful as I'd hoped, I wanted to show my support for the #BLM movement in another way. It looks like we'll be wearing masks for the foreseeable future so that felt like the most logical platform available.
